The setting of the novel take us to the future, when in a hugely consumptive American books are considered to be a source of evil and unruliness and are subject to be burnt in fire. Books are uncovered from hiding places and set on fire publicly along with the house where they are found by the special groups of firemen.
Guy Montag and his wife Mildred live engulfed in delirious pleasure and entertainment, dazzled by TV series that flood constantly on them from the screen-walls of their house when it dawns on Montag that he feels urged to save and read books. Getaway from senseless reality is the only way to return to the ability and habit to think. Montag escapes from the city where the war has just broken out. He follows the river that leads him to the center of the country and there he meets book-people.
