Jo Nesbø (born 29 March 1960 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian novelist and musician, best known internationally for his crime fiction. He grew up in Molde and studied economics at the Norwegian School of Economics. Before becoming a full-time writer, he worked as a journalist and stockbroker and was the lead singer and songwriter for the Norwegian band Di Derre. Nesbø’s first novel, The Bat (1997), introduced Detective Harry Hole, the protagonist of his most famous crime series. His books have been translated into many languages and have made him one of Norway’s most successful contemporary authors.
