One of the most unusual works about World War II
This work showcases the horrors of war through paradoxical logic, self-contradictory syllogisms, and vivid, almost tangible imagery. The inevitability of war and human deceit, flourishing amidst immense tragedy, are presented through dark humor and absurd situations. The novel’s chronologically fragmented chapters, with added tension, depict the lives of combat pilots in the fictional 256th squadron during the war, where the only way to survive is not to die, and to not die, one must manage to stay alive. And therein lies the catch.
