This volume includes five renowned tragedies by the great Greek playwright Euripides (480–406 BCE): Medea, Hippolytus, Electra, The Bacchae (which, according to Plutarch, was partially staged at the court of King Artavazd II of Armenia [reigned 55–34 BCE]), and Iphigenia in Aulis. All are presented in a fresh, original translation (Electra is translated into Eastern Armenian for the first time).

The introduction not only delves into the tragedies themselves but also offers an overview of Euripides’ life, the unique characteristics of ancient Greek theater, and his works' structural and metrical features. The Bacchae, initially published in 1995 in Aram Topchyan’s original translation, appears in this edition in a significantly revised form.

Translated from Ancient Greek with an Introduction and Notes by Aram Topchyan and Gohar Muradyan
