The collection of stories “Oriental Tales” by Yourcenar was first published by the renowned French publishing house “Gallimard” in 1938. The collection consists of ten novellas. The author drew inspiration from ancient Mediterranean and Far Eastern legends. The stories are based on philosophical themes that unite world culture: love, patriotism, betrayal, morality, peace, and more. “Gallimard” republished the collection in 1967 after the author made some revisions. This translation is based on that edition.
